Dear Rider,
As I have the honor of sharing my heart with you, I am taking the opportunity to write a few thoughts that you may carry to the barn, this day and always.
Passionately love your horse and your life; and in doing so hold your safety, the safety of your horse and others in high regard.
Recognize and praise every victory, no matter how swift or how small.
Do not feel guilty for what you consider mistakes of yesterday, today or tomorrow. For, they are opportunities for learning and refinement. Treasure each of them, as such.
Continue to grow and give grace to others who are doing the same.
Be very clear, as to your equestrian goals. Review them often against reality. Discuss them candidly and revise as needed to find joy and comfort in your journey. Consider that your goals are not those of your horse, who has no goals.
If you think that you horse is hurting, you are probably right. Remember, the person who spends the most time with a horse knows it best. Trust your intuition.
Be mindful of the horse's well being in all circumstances, but know the truth about how the horse thinks, feels and behaves by nature. Remember, horses are not humans, though we sometimes treat them as if they are.
Most of all, enjoy every moment you spend with your horse; and do all that you can to ensure that the horse feels good about himself, both inside and out, when he is with you. The horse reflects our image, so it is significant that you can be proud of what you see.
I encourage you to discover and explore your talents and those of your horse. May you stay inspired and may you always have the opportunity to pursue your horses' health and happiness. Remember, above all else victory lies within the heart felt bond between you and your horse.
Wishing you safe and joyful rides,
Melissa
“Riding a horse is not a
gentle hobby, to be picked up and laid down like a game of solitaire. It is a grand passion. It seizes a person whole and once it has done so, he/she will have to accept that his life
will be radically changed.”
